Tenggara Explorer |
The "Tenggara Explorer" is the second SBF designed vessel for PT Indonusa Tenggara Marine following on from the 30m Fast Ferry "Tenggara Satu". The Tenggara Explorer is in operation with the Newmont Mining Company in Sumbawa, providing environmental survey and marine support roles.
The aft superstructure design provides the master with a commanding view over the ROV area and workdeck. An aft steering station inside the wheelhouse provides the master a view over the aft A-frame and winch when undertaking bottom-sampling operations in up to 1,500 metres of water.
The ‘Tenggara Explorer’ has a variety of attributes for mainly environmental uses, including: Newmont-supplied Oceaneering Mohawk ROV and LARS on the port side in front of the wheelhouse for underwater inspection of the tailing s pipeline running from the mine out to sea (there is an ROV control room immediately adjacent to the ROV area); a stern A-frame and winch for bottom sampling of the seabed (there is a laboratory adjacent to this aft deck area for environmental testing and assessment); the main deck carries pre-fabricated reef balls for deployment by the deck crane to create artificial reefs for the local fishing community in agreed locations; there is also a dry hold on the main deck from which the deck crane can load and unload.
In addition, as the vessel will be constantly operating around the south western waters of the island of Sumbawa, she will provide local port surveillance for the mine.
The vessel can accommodate up to 12 crew and personnel in three four-berth cabins on the main deck plus a master’s cabin on the wheelhouse deck. These cabins are provided for the ship’s crew, ROV technicians and environmental scientists. The vessel features an open plan galley, a dining area, WC, bathroom and laundry. The large dining area will also be used as a meeting and presentation room.
The ‘Tenggara Explorer’ is powered by twin Caterpillar C18’s at the heavy duty rating of 447.4kW each through ZF 550 gearboxes driving Stone Marine four-blade propellers. She has a top speed of 15 knots although she will generally operate at Speeds lower than 12 knots. Two Keypower bow thrusters powered by a dedicated Yanmar engine assist in maintaining station-keeping when required. On board power is provided by a 31kVA Caterpillar C2.2 genset. A pair of synchronized 86kVA Caterpillar C4.4 gensets are installed to provide power to ROV operations.
The vessel is built to the requirements of Bureau Veritas and Indonesian SEACOM.
